As many of you heard in worship yesterday, Mark Maness (chair of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee*) announced that Rev. Jim McClurg has been appointed as our next Senior Pastor. The appointment will be made official at the Annual Conference in June, and Rev. McClurg will be here with us in July.
Rev. Jim McClurg has most recently served as pastor at Alliance UMC in Fort Worth. Jim has a BA in Psychology from University of Illinois Chicago and a Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Jim and his wife Desirre have four children - Zachary, Madison, Jake and Morgan - and two grandchildren - Brody and Paisley. Desirre is a 5th grade teacher. We will share more about Jim and his family as the time of their arrival approaches.
Jim shares, "My family and I are very excited about the new opportunity for ministry with our new church family, First United Methodist Church Grapevine. We are excited about developing deep and meaningful relationships with the congregation as we serve side my side as the body of Christ. We also look forward to many years of fruitful ministry together as we carry out the mission of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
On behalf of SPRC, Mark Maness expresses enthusiasm for the appointment. "We believe Jim will be a good fit for our congregation. He is mission-minded (recently returned from a trip to Kenya with our Bishop), and has grown the church at Alliance UMC in his time there."
Please add Jim and his family as a focus of prayer as he comes to minister and lead our church into the future. Also, lift up Alliance UMC as they prepare to welcome a new pastor.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mark Maness (firstname.lastname@example.org, 817-212-8419) or any member of the SPRC (listed on our website).
