Romans 12:1-3

I was raised in the home of two educators. My dad was a middle school principal. My mom was a middle school language arts teacher (what we called “English” back in my day). My siblings and I were taught to read books, and to respect and care for them as well. As my Dad would sometimes say, “You need to go open your mind... go read something.”

When my dad read the newspaper, he would sometimes say to us in that fatherly voice that reminds you to pay close and particular attention, “listen to this,” after which he would read an article to us out loud. Then he would ask, “What do you think about that?”

Study broadens your mind, and in doing so, it broadens your understanding of things. How? Because through study, you come to owning for yourself what YOU think or believe about the subject or topic.

The same thing happens when you study the Bible deeply. You come to own what YOU believe.

Romans 12:6-8

What is your gift?   I don’t know about you . . . but in my life, I’ve seen a lot of people trying to be something they can never be, because they do not possess the gifts they need to do the task.  In truth, they would be so much more successful, happy and contented doing what they were gifted to do.

Is service your gift!   Is going out into the community to help others your thing?   Then go out and serve!   I truly wonder if most of us have this gift in some capacity.  Look hard into who you really are, and work to uncover and improve your serve!!!

Dear Lord, help me have the heart to serve whomever needs me.  Open my eyes to the endless possibilities of service, for the sake of Your Kingdom, that I not be lifted up, but that You be lifted up.  Amen.

“…we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”

Casting Crowns sing, "But if we are the Body, Why aren’t His arms reaching, Why aren’t His hands healing, Why aren’t His words teaching?  And if we are the Body, Why aren’t His feet going, Why is His love not showing them there is a way?" There is a way.  How are you being a part of the Body of Christ?

Romans 10:8b-17

"The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart."

Is the faith you hold in your heart the faith you express with your lips? Faith is more than an issue of the heart. To be complete it must be shared with someone else.

Romans 6:5-11

“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

God has freed us from sin, but often we don’t believe in his love enough to forgive ourselves. What is it that you have asked the Lord to forgive in you, but have not let go of yourself? This would be a good time to trust the Lord enough to forgive yourself.

1 Peter 3:8-9

“Do not repay evil with evil or abuse for abuse; but on the contrary, repay with a blessing.”

How much more profitable our time would be if we spend it figuring out how to bless the person who has hurt us rather than how to get back at them.  Read Romans 12:14-21.

Romans 8:35-39

Nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.” (39b)

When we refuse to forgive ourselves, we are placing a wedge between God and us.  God is knocking on the door to your heart.  Allow the Lord to love you into forgiveness.
