CONNECT has come so far in the past year! The first ever CONNECT Back to School Fair was held on Saturday, August 11, at Grapevine High School.  This fair targeted the economically disadvantaged children of GCISD in order to help them be prepared for the start of school

While we don't yet have the numbers for the students that attended, and we don't know how many families showed that weren't pre-registered, we do know this about Saturday's Back-to-School Fair:
  • Over 2,700 Back-to-School Fair invitations were mailed in May
  • 500 families/1056 students registered
  • 1,056 school supplies packs were ordered
  • Over 1,500 backpacks were donated
  • 384 pre-registered families attended
  • Needs assessments were mailed out with the golden ticket and returned to us at the fair--those assessments will be used to better identify, understand and serve these students and families
  • A gift card was presented to every (or almost every) family
  • Many GCISD administrators, central office staff, and campus staff members participated and did anything and everything from planning and running the event to greeting and escorting students and families
  • Over 150 community volunteers participated and were comprised of GCISD parents, GCISD staff, GRACE, NCL Metroport and Colleyville chapters, Metroport Rotary Club, Lions Club, Henry Schein, Colleyville Presbyterian Church, First Methodist Grapevine, Women's Divison of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, 121 Community Church and citizens of Grapevine who responded to notice in newspaper in Community Calendar
  • Over 20 GCISD departments/groups/churches/businesses/organizations set up a table at the fair including Nutrition Services, Registration, Health/SHAC, GRACE, Women's Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club, United Way, Tarrant County Health Department, JPS, Big Brothers Big Sisters, First Methodist Church Grapevine, 121 Community Church and Dr. Sandra Armstrong
  • Many different churches donated supplies and/or gift cards: First Methodist Grapevine, 121 Community Church, Compass Christian Church, First Presbyterian Grapevine, Colleyville Presbyterian, and Beth-Israel
  • An Ebby Halliday real estate agent has offered to purchase additional school supplies packs for those children who didn't register but attended the fair
  • The Henry Schein company has offered $10,000 in school supplies, food, and other donations for next year's fair
  • CONNECT has been named the sole beneficiary of the Grapefest golf tournament next month, which will give us money to assist students in many more ways!
Thank you for believing that with God's help we could make a difference! Yesterday was such gift to and from many and in many different ways. To merely say "thank you" is inadequate.
