"Words of Peace" is an effort to provide the devotional book Jesus Calling to those going through difficult times.

This book has been a tremendous help to our congregation over the last years as well as to many individuals. It has been a tool God has used to resource us with scripture in short daily passages which are delivered in a very personal way.

One of our members, Amy Wicke, relied on this book to give her peace during many difficulties. Amy joined First Methodist Grapevine in 1995. She was involved in many ministries here and was a smiling, joyous person. Right after the sanctuary opened in 2002, Amy had a seizure in worship. Soon, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her children, Brent and Monica were 4 and 8 at the time. Amy had surgery, a variety of treatments and battled the tumor for many years. Eventually it robbed her of the opportunity to work, care for her kids and even to live on her own. As her body was declining, her faith grew stronger. She joined a Bible Study here at the church and found strength and comfort in the words of scripture and from the women in the Bible Study. As Amy's health declined, she became unable to drive so Bible Study members would pick her up; when she could no longer leave the assisted living facility, they went to her for their weekly studies. Along the way, Amy found peace from the devotional book, Jesus Calling. In the last months of her life, she requested that the group study Jesus Calling because it was easier for her to understand at that point. The group honored her request. In August of 2014, Amy lost her battle with cancer.

Her children, Brent and Monica, wanted to honor their mom's memory by giving a gift to the church. The Bible Study group prayed about how to use that gift in a way to honor Amy and it was determined that the book Jesus Calling would be given to people going through difficulties similar to Amy's. The books are being distributed to those struggling with cancer, addiction, eating disorders. They are being give to single moms; to those who visit our church for the first time and families we serve through our mission ministries.

It is our prayer that others who are touched by this book, would donate to provide a book or many books to others so that this act of generosity can continue.

If you would like to contribute to the on-going support to provide others with Words of Peace, we invite you to do so. Please write "Words of Peace" in the memo of your check or online special gift. www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/give
