Role at First Church:

Senior Associate Pastor; Pastoral Care, pastoral support for Compassion and Men’s Ministries

Started on Staff:
June, 2005

Education/Background:
Rick received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Wesleyan College in 1976. In 1983, he completed the City of Ft. Worth Police Training Academy, after which he was commissioned and served as a police officer in Fort Worth for 6 years. Rick's seminary work was completed at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 2000, the same year he was ordained as an Elder in the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 20 years of ministry, Rick has served as a Youth Ministry Director, Education Minister, and has pastored churches in Palo Pinto, Waco, Godley and Hewitt, TX.

In addition, Rick has 10 years experience as a police department chaplain and has received training in crisis conflict resolution and mediation. Rick is also a "New Consecration Sunday" stewardship program consultant for the Central Texas Methodist Foundation, and is a member of the National Association of United Methodist Evangelists.

Rick has over 20+ years experience as a therapeutic music entertainer, singing to senior adults in nursing homes and retirement centers, to children in local hospitals, at church and scout camps, and at local gatherings. In September of 2011, Rick earned certification in Theraputic Music Entertainment, becoming one of only a handful of individuals in the State of Texas to earn this designation.

Family:
Wife: Liz. Two daughters: Maranda and Meredith. Two son-in-laws: Chad and Dustin. One dog: Tigger. One cat: Corky.

Favorite Scripture and why:
Psalm 100, Make a joyful noise... Singing and worship are more of a life attitude than anything else.   We need to continually strive to be in God’s presence, and when we get there, we need to be ready to sing and shout to His glory.

Favorite Movie:
McClintock (John Wayne), especially the “mud bowl” part where Katherine (Maureen O’Hara) tries to jab G.W. (John Wayne) in the back side with a hat pin.

What I like best about my ministry:
1) Being given the opportunity to guide people into the presence of God for the first time. It is an experience they never forget. 2) Singing during the Children’s Time in the worship services. 3) Singing to people and playing the guitar. 4) all the different types of Pastoral care opportunities we have.

For fun I enjoy:
Family; traveling to the Texas Hill Country, Texas Gulf Coast or the Ozarks with my wife; gardening; Texas folklore and folk music, taking pictures of wildflowers.
