Jenn Pick is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. She previously served as the Path1 Resident for New Church Starts at the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, TX. She has spent much of her professional ministry in the New York Annual Conference revitalizing traditional churches to be about the transforming work of God in their communities and their world. Jennifer has a Master of Literature in Biblical Studies from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. She has studied biblical archaeology in Greece and Turkey though a program of Cambridge University. Most recently, Rev. Pick graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Drew Theological School with a focus in Early Christianities. She was a Ministry Fellow through the Fund for Theological Education, where she studied holy space and Christian pilgrimage.
I met Todd, my partner in life and love, while I was in seminary at Drew Theological School. Having been similarly called to ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church, my husband and I started a grand adventure into God's dream for us. In July 2014, that dream expanded with the arrival of our son, Andrew (or Drew, as he is more apt to be called).
Favorite Scripture(s): Oh, my... this is something you never want to ask a Biblical scholar. If I have to choose, I can't choose just one...
Psalm 139: 1-18: "Where could I go to get away from your Spirit?...You are the one who created my innermost parts; you knit me together while I was still in my mother's womb. I give thanks to you that I was marvelously set apart." For me, this is the epitome of the grace that God gives us before we are even aware of God's Spirit. It assures me from my first breath, to my last, God knows me.
Isaiah 43:1-4a: "I have called you by name; and you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, when through the rivers, they won't sweep over you..." I will never tire of reading the words from God to us, saying that God loves us. Never.
Isaiah 55: "You who are thirsty, come to the water! Whoever has no money, come, buy food and eat! Without money, at no cost, buy wine and milk!" I imagine that the kin-dom of God is like a big banquet table where everyone has enough and no one is sent away hungry. It is an unfathomable invitation and one of which I want to be a part.
Any novel by an Austen, Bronte, or Elliot that allows the novel's inherent wit, charm and grace to leap off the page and onto the screen. I'm a sucker for a period drama. What can I say?
What I like best about my ministry:
I love the small moments in ministry where God's presence becomes palpable. For me, that usually happens when a child of God is baptized or in the breaking of the bread at the Table, or in the telling of a life-story - a story of struggle and grace.
For fun I enjoy:
Laughing with my son; taking a day to find a new holy place; dreaming of new possibilities; traveling anywhere, anytime.
