Developing a Wholesome Heart
Many people suffer from one of two emotional extremes: some are out of control, their emotions keeping them on a constant roller coaster ride and in a constant state of turmoil. On the other extreme are people who try to deny their emotionality; they think the key to emotional happiness is to become non-emotional. Both extremes are faulty; balance is the key. This class presents a practical, biblical perspective on human emotionality. We'll discuss the seven primary, painful emotions (hurt, anger, fear, guilt, false guilt, condemnation and stress) and learn how to negotiate them. We'll also introduce ten positive emotions that will lead to emotional happiness and stability.

"The Good and Beautiful Life" by J. B. Smith
Ladies' Tuesday Morning Study
"I have never met a person whose goal was to ruin his or her life. We all want to be happy, and we want it all of the time." The problem is, we have bought into false notions of happiness and success. Eventually we find ourselves living a beautifully packaged life of self-destruction. Following the Sermon on the Mount, this study guides us to look behind these character flaws and to replace our false beliefs with Jesus' narratives about life in the kingdom of God.
Begins: Tuesday, September 7 (12 weeks)
Time:  9:30 - 11:00 AM (Room TBA)
Cost: Purchase your own book, available at Lifeway Christian Store.

Short-Term Disciple Studies - 8-11 weeks...

Invitation To Romans
Compare what Paul writes in Romans to what theologians like Augustine, Luther and Calvin say in trying to understand Paul in their time. This study is meaty and extremely enjoyable for those students with some familiarity of Romans and with a strong biblical foundation to rely on.

Invitation To The New Testament
Explore the writings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. Look at how the early church developed.

Invitation To the Old Testament
Explore the Old Testament’s story of God and God's calling of the people of Israel through the many "voices" of the biblical text.

Invitation to Psalms
Make a deeper connection to the world of the Psalms so that these well known scriptures can help you give voice to all aspects of our human experience---joy, faith, uncertainty and sorrow. The study is accessible for adults with little prior Bible experience.

Invitation To John
Experience magnificent passages in John including the I am statements. Revisit stories only told in John's gospel including Nicodemus, Mary Magdalene and the raising of Lazarus. Participants for this Invitation to John do not have to have an in-depth knowledge of the Bible to enjoy and benefit from participation.

Long-Term Disciple Studies - 32-34 weeks

Disciple Bible Study I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study
Disciple I is a study that moves through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. Features small-group discussion of Scripture based on careful study and preparation. These groups are aimed at transformation, not just information. Homework required. NOTE: Disciple I is a prerequisite to all other Disciple studies.

Disciple II: Into the Word Into the World
Move deeper into the word with this study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts. Study themes of pride, hospitality, patience, and humility as we consider how we are called into ministry in the world around us.  Homework required.

Disciple III: Remember Who You Are
This study of the Prophets and Paul’s Letters identifies God’s people as a community of memory. It sets the Prophets and Paul’s writings in historical and geographical context. Participants will learn to understand Bible study as a call to repentance – to turn their life toward God and echoes the demand of the prophets and Paul to put God first and be a community of obedience. Homework required.

Disciple IV: Under the Tree of Life
This study of the Writings (Old Testament books not in the Torah or the Prophets); the Gospel of John; 1, 2, 3 John; James; Jude; and Revelation. Emphasis on praying the Psalms and on living toward the promise pictured in Revelation highlight this study. Homework required.

Jesus in the Gospels
Jesus in the Gospels is a study that invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question "who is the Jesus that you see?" This study fixes participants firmly in the witness of the four Gospels and holds them accountable to the Jesus who emerges from that witness. Homework required.
