Role at First Church:
Volunteer Coordinator
Started on Staff:
January 2008
Education/Background:
My father's Air Force career moved our family more during my 4 college years than at any other time in our lives. I graduated from THEE University of Texas (Hook 'em!) in Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Secondary Education. My first 3 years were at American River Jr. College in Sacramento, CA, LSU Alexandria, LA, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. I taught general Home Ec. for 2 years at Georgetown High School and Vocational Child Development for 7 years at Boswell High School in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.
Family:
Bob and I met through mutual friends on a blind date in the fall of 1979 and married in January of 1980. Brandon, 25, and his wife Sarah enjoy owning their own business in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Angela, 21, will graduate from Texas Tech in May and combines working in retail management with her love of writing.
Favorite Scripture:
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:1-2)
This is a favorite because I am so grateful for God's mercy and the fact that He has and continues to transform me.
Favorite Movie:
The Classic The Sound of Music - because I can identify with all of the rich elements of life's struggles it portrays: our faith as we try to understand God's direction and will for our lives, cute children and family life along with their ups and downs, romance between two very different people who learn to grow together and respect and support each others' passions... all while the world in all of its beauty and yes, ugliness of human failings (war), are ever-present.
What I like best about my ministry:
Being able to be a part of the vision of helping each guest, visitor and member of our church feel better connected with the desires of their hearts in their encounters with God and with each other at FUMCG.
For fun I enjoy:
Being intentional in my relationships with friends old and new, usually over coffee, good food and emailing. Cooking and entertaining. Exploring travel opportunities near and far. Staying so connected with our "children." Being part of my mother's Red Hatters group. Hanging out with Bob.
