Sundays at 4:00 PM with Dr. Ken Diehm in Room 2011 of the Family Life Center

Wednesdays at 7:00 PM with Rev. Rita Yoes in Room 2011 of the Family Life Center

Childcare is provided for all groups. You may also choose to participate by discussing the book with your Sunday School Class. Visit our website at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/hole for more details on Sunday School Classes studying the book.

Memorial Services

We have lost two church members this week and wanted to share information with you regarding memorial arrangements.

Bobbie Cherry passed away on Sunday, January 24. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, at 11:00 AM in Founders Chapel. The family suggests donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to First Methodist Grapevine.

Randy Roberts passed away on Tuesday, January 26. The memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 30, at 4:00 PM in the Sanctuary (downtown). The family suggests donations to First Methodist Grapevine.

Chili Bowl VII and Elvis Gospel Concert

This Sunday, January 31, is Chili Bowl VII at 5:30 PM in the Family Life Center, followed by a gospel concert by “Elvis” (Kraig Parker) at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary!

It's not too late to enter your team! We will be taking team entries right up until Sunday. Sign up on Check-In online or contact Neil Payne (NPayne@PGMGI.COM, 817-329-4269) or Kevin Mitchell (kmitchell@grapevinetexas.gov). Chili Bowl is an annual event where the whole church comes together and tests our best chili recipes!  Entertainment is provided by the First Church String Band!! Everyone is welcome to participate - whether you enter the contest, or just come eat! We have a new category called "It's Not Chili" and hot dogs will be available for the kids. Get full details on the Iron Men web page.

News to Change the World

Help for Haiti
We continue to keep the people of Haiti - and all those who are helping there - in our prayers. We received word earlier this week that two of our United Methodist leaders - Rev. Sam Dixon, head of UMCOR, and Rev. Clint Rabb, head of GBGM Missions Volunteers - have both died as a result of their injuries when the Hotel Montana collapsed around them during the earthquake. You may support the relief efforts by writing a check to the church and indicate “Haiti” in the memo. You may also give online to Advance #418325 at www.umcor.org. In addition, we are providing health kits for UMCOR. Bring your assembled kits to the table (outside the church office, in the sanctuary foyer - both Heritage and Downtown, and the Founders Chapel atrium) by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1. We will be taking them to be shipped along with others from North Texas churches. Detailed instructions on assembling the kits are available on the “Help for Haiti” flyers in the foyer brochure racks and on our website - or click here to download a PDF of the flyer.

2010 Kenya Mission Trip
The 2010 Kenyan Mission Trip will be Thursday, June 17 – Friday, July 2. An informational meeting will be held on Monday, February 1, at 7:00 PM in Room 2002 of the Family Life Center. The trip will include a sports camp for children and youth, construction work on the Meru Synod Guest House, and time with the AIDS orphans sponsored by our church. The trip will conclude with a 3 day, 2 night safari in Massai Mara. The approximate cost will be between $3,500 and $4,000. For more information please contact Ken at 817-481-2559 or kend@fumcg.org

God Can for GRACE

Mission Green Tip of the Week:  4 More Ways To Save at the Pump
1. Drive smart. When you drive aggressively, you waste gas and put others at risk. Observe the speed limit, avoid rapid acceleration, don't jam on your brakes, and maintain a constant speed on the road.
2. Keep your car in shape. A well-tuned car burns less gasoline. So make sure that you get your oil and air filters changed regularly, and that your tires are always properly inflated.
3. Change your commute. Sitting in rush-hour traffic burns gas and gets you nowhere. If possible, adjust your work schedule so that you avoid the heaviest traffic. Even better, if your employer allows it, think about telecommuting. If you can't telecommute full-time, try for one or two days a week.
4. Never idle your car more than thirty seconds. For every two minutes a car idles, it can waste as much fuel as it takes to travel an entire mile. Even the old practice of idling the engine to warm it up is not necessary with newer cars.

The Well with Thelma Wells
What a lovely evening we enjoyed at the January “Well” event. Caleb Hailey sang three beautiful songs: Testify To Love, Angels Among Us, and Temporary Home. Our guest speaker, Thelma Wells, treated us to a delightful discussion about how each of us has a purpose for being on this earth. We may not know exactly what that purpose is, but God is orchestrating things in our life so that we will be able to figure it out. She encouraged us to focus on what we really enjoy doing to help us find that purpose. Panera Bread provided a light dinner of broccoli cheese or potato soup, harvest apple salad and yummy chocolate brownies.  Click here for the full photo album.
