Earth Boxes

earthboxLooking for an easy, earth-friendly way to grow some veggies this summer? Join 29 families who bought an Earth Box last Sunday!  The Mission Green Team will be taking orders for Earth Boxes again this Sunday, April 5, at tables under the Sanctuary portico and outside Founders Chapel. These boxes include soil, water fill tube, fertilizer, dolomite, aeration screen, etc. - everything you need to grow your own vegetables. The cost per box is $63, which includes everything listed above and the shipping cost. If we have enough orders there could be a volume discount (amount yet to be determined). Our hope is to encourage people to grow veggies for themselves and to share the extras with the needy who live within the Ministry Mile by bringing them to the Thrift Shop to be given to customers there. Why would you want to use an Earth Box? See the Mission Green blog for more information. Questions? Contact Rev. Armando Alvarado.

Go Green and Help the Youth!

recycleDo you have stacks of newspapers and magazines piling up at home? Load them up and bring them to the new paper recycling bin situated in front of the apartments. Proceeds from the paper deposited in the recycling bin will go toward youth ministries. The more paper placed in our bin, the more money we earn!  The following items can be placed in this recycling bin: magazines, shopping catalogs, newspaper, office and school papers, mail.  Please do not put the following items in this bin:  cardboard, phone books, metal, plastic, glass, trash.

We'd like to report that to date we have collected 1.522 tons of paper, saving 10 cubic yards of landfill space and 6,245 KWH of energy. Just a reminder, bring all of your paper recycling (except cardboard and phone books) to the green and yellow recycle dumpster beside the apartment parking lot.  In addition to being "green" the proceeds from these donations go to youth ministries.
