Missions and Community Outreach Work
Located just off Church & College Streets
Shop hours are:
Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Saturday 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
The Thrift Shop provides clothes and household items at extremely inexpensive prices. The Thrift Shop has been a fixture at First Church since the late 1970’s. From humble beginnings as a one-day per week ministry in one of the classrooms, to its current state as a five-day per week ministry with its own site… the Thrift Shop volunteers have been faithful to serve the needy in our community for many years.
Most of the clients that come into the Thrift Shop are low-income families that just need a helping hand. In addition to seasonal clothing for men, women, and children, the Thrift Shop provides blankets, books, toys, and other household items at extremely inexpensive prices.
A Board of Directors guides the Thrift Shop, and all proceeds (beyond operating expenses) are given to charities. The Thrift Shop has provided funds to GRACE, Meals on Wheels, the Lydia Patterson Institute, our Creative Learning Center, the Black College Fund, camp registrations for children, and many other worthy causes.
If you would like to become a part of helping others through the Thrift Shop, you may do so by donating items or volunteering your time. To donate items, drop them off at the drop box at the edge of the Thrift Shop parking lot.
